Hotel Review: Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit

Shopping and street food are the main reasons why I love traveling to Bangkok. While most guys detest the idea of embarking on these kind of trips with their girlfriends/wives, I consider myself lucky because CS supports my whims all the way. In fact, he allots the entire weekend on my Chatuchak Market bargain hunting and barely complains even after hours of walking under the sun. So to make up for all his sacrifices, I make sure that he's coming home to a nice room with a big comfortable bed. Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok is still our first choice but this time around, we were welcomed by the hospitable staff of Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit.

Getting an Uber ride from the airport saved us half of what the hotel charges for its pick up service. The hotel allowed us to check-in early which was a relief after a red eye flight.

Guests can choose among several types of accommodation depending on one's need and budget. Each room and suite offers five-star perks, elegant decor and mesmerizing view of Sukhumvit district. As CS and I spend most of our time outside, we opted for the cheapest room available - a deluxe room with a king-size bed and city view for around Php7,200 per night (inclusive of breakfast for 2) booked thru Agoda. Other room categories include premier deluxe rooms, executive rooms, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites and a presidential suite.

Our 34sqm deluxe room features a living area, 40-inch cable television, iPod dock, writing desk with ergonomic chair, in-room safe, iron and ironing board, 24-hour room service, complimentary bottled water, mini-refrigerator, coffee and tea, marble bathroom, bidet, shower/tub combination, lighted make up mirror, hair dryer, and Thann bathroom amenities.

Pros: Great location near BTS Station, plenty of food and massage places around the hotel, polite and helpful staff, spacious and well-appointed rooms with great city view and delicious breakfast.

Cons: No free internet!

Buffet Breakfast at Medley, Okada Manila

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it provides the body and brain fuel after an overnight fast. According to UK's National Health Service, developing a good eating habit can reduce obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. As much as I would like to stay in bed longer, no thanks to Okada's luxurious accommodation, dining at Medley Buffet is one thing you should not miss. The all-day dining restaurant features an innovative open kitchen design that brings together a symphony of local and international cuisine.

Aside from an array of appetizers and desserts, breakfast spread at Medley buffet is comprised of several stations to delight guest and satisfy whatever your cravings may be:
  1. Filipino cuisine
  2. Chinese cuisine
  3. Indian cuisine
  4. Japanese cuisine
  5. Korean cuisine
  6. Italian cuisine
I've never seen so much options for a buffet breakfast like how they do it here in Okada's Medley Buffet; truly one of a kind and definitely worth waking up for!

Delectable cold cuts, smoked fish and meat, cheese and dried fruits to start your day right.

Make your own bagel!

Different types of honey ranging from the plain one to lavender and chili flavors.

I passed on the bread corner to make way for even more delightful treats.

Ready-made and do-it-yourself salad station with extensive choices of ingredients and dressings.

Homemade yogurt, cereals, granola and muesli for more healthy options.

My favorite station of them all - Japanese! There's sushi, sashimi and maki available (and replenished faster than I can finish my salmon and tuna sashimi) to cater Japanese food lovers like myself because there's never a too early nor too late time for fresh seafood!

Whether you like it scrambled, poached, soft-boiled or sunny side up, just tell the chef how you prefer it cooked and it will be delivered to your table once available.

Plenty of options readily available to your picking. As much as I would like to try everything, my appetite is not the same as it was 10 years ago so I chose the ones that I really liked to save on my calorie intake. Bacon is always a good idea as well as congee with ginger and tons of leeks.

Guests can also choose among a variety of noodles, ingredients, spices and soup base at the noodle station. I was this close to ordering a bowl but there's way too much delectable dessert to try!

Freshly sliced fruits, native kakanin, muffins and other sweet treats to end a terrific heavy meal.

Five stars for variety, food choices, presentation and service - undoubtedly the best breakfast buffet in Manila! For non-hotel guests, breakfast rate is Php1400 for adults and Php700 for kids (6 to 11 years old, below 6 is free of charge). Rates are inclusive of service fee and taxes.
