Dinner at Cafe France

After spending a few good minutes at Uniqlo which recently opened its first store in the Mall of Asia (I was able to score some colored pants at Php590 only!), we proceeded to Cafe France just across the popular Japanese clothing store to have dinner. DB and I wanted something light and delicious so we both agreed to eat at CF.

We usually go to Almon Marina for our sandwich fix but a 10-minute shopping for DB is like spending the whole day at the mall. So walking for another 5 minutes or so is not an option.

On the table

Pierre Tray Couture - Php270.00

DB had the Pierre Tray Couture which has Seafood Marinara which is a bit oily on the side

and a delicious half-sized Seafood Deluxe Clubhouse.

The tray also comes with three mini bread sticks with Chicken Soup dip and a glass of fruit juice.

I, on the other hand had the Philippe Tray Couture which has everything I wanted!

Philippe Tray Couture - Php240.00

The French Dip Roast Beef was tasty and tender as expected while the Beef Stroganoff was a revelation! It was my first time to try Cafe France's version and I really liked it. The sauce was creamy and tasted mighty fine and the pasta was cooked to perfection.

The trays also comes with a piece of milk chocolate with dried apricot inside for dessert. I asked the staff for the chocolate's brand and I was told that it was being delivered in the store in boxes with no name.

I hope they stock this in CF stores too because its so good!

Shopping + good food with DB = Happy me!

Johnny Chow

My friends/colleagues and I went to the Newport Mall the other day to buy some stuff only to find out that most of the stores there open at exactly 12 noon. Since we have a few minutes to spare, we decided to have an early lunch in one of the Chinese restaurants called Johnny Chow.

We were impressed the minute we stepped in. The interior was unique, modern and almost everything here -- from the chairs and decors to the waitresses' colored wigs, serves as a great conversation piece. Too bad I forgot to take a decent camera and had to use my phone to take photos which did not give justice to how lovely this restaurant is and how appetizing the food were.

Cute chairs and very comfortable too!

What we ordered

Quarry Bay (Pork Siomai with Edamame) - Php158.00

Both the Seafood and Pork Siomai were delicious and so worth the price!

Hong Kong Sunset (Seafood Siomai) - Php158.00

Johnny Fried Rice was bursting with so many ingredients which makes it a complete meal in itself.

Johnny Chow Fried Rice - Php230.00

Pork Asado and Lechon Macau were exceptionally good -- very tasty and soft.

Wan Chai Pork Asado & Lechon Macau - Php310.00

Delicious Fried Spring Rolls perfect with the Calamansi+Sugar+Fish Sauce dip. Oh, this is so drool worthy!

Good Morning Vietnam - Php278.00

For only Php450, we were treated to a plate of 5 freshly cooked Tiger Prawns in Crab Fat Sauce. So unhealthy but who cares?! *wink*

The star of the table!

Imperial Prawns with Crab Fat Sauce - Php450.00

I can't get enough of how cute these chairs are! Can I please bring one home?

Or maybe these two?

Kenny Rogers Roasters

Kenny Rogers had been a favorite go-to place of mine since I was in high school since I prefer roasted over fried chicken. Fast forward to today and I still go to Kenny's whenever I'm craving for delicious and juicy roasted chicken and grilled ribs at affordable prices.

Here's what we ordered

Rib Plate A (Half Slab) - Php335.00

The rib was not fall-off-the-bones soft but still tender and tasty.

Steamed vegetables on the side was fresh and crunchy.

DB had the Chicken and Rib Plate which has two of my favorites in one plate!

Chicken and Rib Plate B (Half Slab & 1 Piece Chicken) - Php430.00

It was my first time to order and try Kenny's Chicken Macaroni Salad and I liked it! It was a bit sweet, had chunks of boiled chicken and the macaroni was cooked well. The coleslaw on the other hand tasted spoiled and sour which we immediately told the staff about. A few seconds after, the manager came by our table and apologized. She asked us to change our order and gave us a bowl of Mac & Cheese in return.

Okay, Kenny Rogers may not be as cheap as compared to other fast food chains out there but I think its money well spent so consider me a loyal patron for more years to come.

The New and Improved Boracay Airport

I know this is quite an old news already but it's my first time back in Boracay after two years and I was elated to see a lot of improvements at the now Boracay Airport (known as Caticlan Airport for the longest time) even from across the tarmac.

After spending a weekend in the beautiful island of Boracay, we were back at the airport and I saw these upgrades up close and personal. The check-in counters are more professional looking rather than the makeshift counters they used before, the pre-departure area now has two floors so everyone can be accommodated and will have a place to sit while waiting for boarding (Shangri-la Boracay and Discovery Shores guests have their own lounges), there are more food choices like Illy Coffee, Hen Lin and a Japanese food stand

two LCD televisions hang on the wall with CNN and ANC channels and the comfort rooms are so much nicer now with tissue, working flush and a bidet!

The view from the second floor of the pre-departure area.

From Php20, the terminal fee hiked up to Php200 per person just like in most international airports like Manila and Cebu. I guess convenience and comfort really does come with a price. But with the delayed flights and cancellations this airport experiences more often than others, its a price we would gladly pay for.

888 Restaurant Boracay

Located in the same spot where Wendy's was from what I remember two years ago, we made our way to 888 Restaurant for dinner. I traveled with kids so rice on every meal is the only option. I was having a bad feeling about trying this out since there's only one table (a Korean couple if I recall correctly) occupied apart from us. But the kids are hungry and Mang Inasal is full so we browsed the menu at once.

The waitress suggested that since we are a group of 6, we might as well get the set meals with at least 9 viands, unlimited rice and iced tea. We ordered the cheapest one at Php288 per person with a minimum of 6 persons.

Tomato Egg Soup

Fried Squid

3 Cups Chicken

Hot Tofu with Pork

String Beans with Pork

Hot Spicy Crispy Shrimp

Pork Belly

Kangkong in Shrimp Sauce

Sweet and Sour Fish

There's nothing here really worth raving about but I did enjoy the 3 Cups Chicken the most. Aside from that, all the dishes were just okay and I think there are more and better options in Boracay with the same price that we paid at 888 Restaurant.

I Met Butchoy in Boracay

It's been two years since I last set foot on the fine and powdery sands of Boracay. I was quite worried the night before because the news said that typhoon Butchoy is set to land in the Philippine Area of Responsibility the following day, our trip to the island. I was constantly texting with my friend who is monitoring the weather until the morning of our flight. He said its not going to hit the province of Aklan so we decided to pursue with our short vacation.

A plane, a tricycle, a boat then a multi-cab ride after and I am back in my ultimate beach destination! The weather was gloomy the whole day but it didn't dampen our moods, we explored and walked from Station 3 to Station 1 like its our first time there.

A lot of people enjoying the waves brought by the strong winds courtesy of Typhoon Butchoy.

Strong winds = Perfect day for Kiteboarding

I saw on CNN that Kiteboarding is now officially considered as an Olympic sport and will make its first appearance in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. That's enough time to practice folks!

A lot of seaweeds by the shore especially in Station 3, one disadvantage of traveling to Boracay during the rainy season.

Hello there Mr. Crab!

I was scared to go on an island-hopping trip seeing how strong the waves are. The 50% discount off the usual rate that they are offering did not appeal to me at all.

A favorite landmark in the island -- Willy's Rock!

We watched a Fire Dance performance before heading to a massage place by the beach near Starbucks for Php299. What a steal right?!

They're really good ha! People can't stop applauding the group after each performance.

I thought making sand castles is already prohibited here but we saw one along Station 1 so a photo is in order.

I woke up the following day and the sun is out and shining!

I can live here forever..

Oh Boracay, you never cease to amaze me!
