Kenny Rogers' New Treats!

We had dinner at Kenny Rogers the other night to try out its new offerings I saw on their billboard. DB prefers to eat light nowadays so this Spicy Chicken Wrap is just perfect for him!

Spicy Chicken Wrap - Php95.00

We also ordered the Side Sampler (Php140.00) and chose two cups of the Mediterranean Pasta and one Tex Mex Macaroni, another new dish. Every time I go to Kenny's, I always try to order Sweet Potato as a side dish because I love Kamote but its unavailable most of the time. And today, the staff at the counter told me that its already phased out. Bummer!

Tex Mex Macaroni

The Tex Mex Macaroni is more like a lighter and sweeter version of Macaroni and Cheese. The Mediterranean Pasta on the other hand has become our staple order. What I really like about it is that it had lots of eggplant and tomatoes in it.

Mediterranean Pasta

High Fiber Plate - Php199.00

Today's serving was so disappointing! The chicken was already cold, the salad that came with it was in kiddie-sized serving and the corn doesn't even have a hint of sweetness at all. A far cry from what Kenny's Japanese corn used to be.

Salad

I wonder who supplies their Japanese Sweet Corn because those being sold in the streets is way sweeter than this.

A not so sweet corn

Dakak Park & Beach Resort - Day Two

My friends and I decided to cancel the trip to Aliguay Island and just spend the day at Dakak to maximize our stay in the resort and see what this 5-star accommodation has to offer. The sun was out and shining we when arrived at Port Orient to have breakfast.

Hoping we could burn all the calorie intake, the group decided to walk and feel the fine powdery sands of Dakak touching our feet.

There are actually three pools in Dakak -- the dolphin pool with water slides, the kiddie pool with waterfalls and another adult pool with jacuzzi. The resort uses spring water in both the kiddie and adult pool with jacuzzi.

An hour massage will cost you Php300.00 only. I had mine a few hours before check out which was a perfect ending to our vacation. Two days of walking, swimming and hiking really stressed out my muscles since I don't have enough exercise anymore.

Being the appointed guide of the group, I encouraged my friends to trek the peak near the resort's check point to give us a bird's view of Dakak. After hours of convincing, we were finally counting the steps going to the highest point.

We all lost count as we were laughing at each others' crazy tactics just to climb to the top and see this view.

We didn't stay long at the peak since it was becoming crowded and we wanted to give way for the people who wanted to take photos. Walking back to the check point was of course, easier than climbing up. We asked the driver to drop us off near the beach so we can catch the sunset.

After spending a good few minutes of harutan by the beach, my friends and I went to The Pirate Bar to have some cocktails before dinner.

Good thing we arrived early so it was still Happy Hour! While they enjoyed their 50% discounted cocktails, I had fun watching the kids dance and munch on the finger food they ordered. *wink*

The Cake Club

After my meeting near The Fort area, DB and I headed to Serendra to have an early dinner. I told him I wanted to check out the recently opened Bonifacio High Street Central to see what's new. It was actually a toss between this and Sariwon, a Korean restaurant, but since we were going somewhere else after dinner and smelling like grilled meat is a no-no, we chose The Cake Club.

I love that the interior is nice and bright!

Arizona is DB's favorite drink

What's on our table

US Angus Beef Burger - Php410.00

DB ordered the US Angus Beef Burger which he finds too oily. The oil was literally dripping every time he takes a bite. But the presentation was superb and the pink bun was too pretty to look at!

Grilled Reuben Sandwich - Php310.00

I had Grilled Reuben which was really good -- it was light and meaty and so cheesy! Serving was huge and I was already full after eating half of it. The fries was crispy and not soggy at all!

Guia - Php250.00 per slice

For dessert, we ordered Guia since we wanted to try something new and be unpredictable instead of getting a slice of Super Moist Cake, the most popular choice. Guia is basically cheesecake with walnuts. It's not overly sweet and I love that it had lots of walnut incorporated in the cheesecake.

Can't wait to try The Cake Club's other offerings especially the cakes!

Chef Tony's Popcorn: My Tub of Happiness

or should I say tubs?

DB recently introduced me to two new flavors of Chef Tony's Gourmet Popcorn. I usually buy the Original flavor but he insisted that I should try these two especially the Dark Chocolate flavor since he knows that I love the bittersweet taste of it.

Country Cheddar

My parents approved! Its salty and sweet at the same time so no wonder they can't get enough of this from the moment I gave them a tub the night I got home. I woke up the following day and it's all gone!

Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate flavored anything is my weakness! Chef Tony's is hands down the most delicious popcorn available on the planet.

Chef Tony's Popcorn lasts for months especially the sealed ones. Since the Holiday Season is fast approaching, I'm planning to stock up on my favorite flavors before they fly off the shelves soon. I'm thinking these make great gifts for family and friends who have sweet tooth!

Ooops! Did I just shared my plans?! Me and my big mouth. Tsk tsk..

Dipolog Food Trip: Hawaiian-Themed Night at Dakak

Theme night buffets in resorts are becoming more popular nowadays. To name a few, I've been to Mindanao Night at Pearl Farm Resort, Davao and Brazilian Night at Plantation Bay Resort in Cebu. On our first night, we decided to check out Dakak's Hawaiian Night at Port Orient Restaurant.

Dinner buffet is priced at Php500 per person. Since we have Php3000 deposit at the resort, trying it out was an easy decision to make. We arrived around 630pm and we were able to choose a table near the buffet but close enough to the stage where the performance will be held later that night.

Bread

The buffet had a lot of different salad variations -- I love their Mango and Prawn Salad a lot. I had 3 servings of each that night as it was so good!

Salad

More Salad

Appetizer

Whenever I travel to the province, I always look forward to having more seafood on my plate thinking its cheaper there than in Manila. My boss said to look out for Curacha (very popular in Zamboanga) which belongs to the crab family but I saw none during my entire stay in Dakak.

Seafood Paella

Linguini Pasta with Bolognese

Steamed Whole Fish with Superior Soya

Mixed Seafood Newburg Jardiniere

Buttered Chicken with Honey and Lemon

Braised Short Beef Ribs Hunter Style

Dakjim Gui

Desserts were so-so, I just went back to the Salad section and got another plate of their yummy Mango Salad instead.

Fresh Fruits

Maja Blanca

Macapuno Pie

Assorted Pastries

On my side of the table

Deviled Egg was ordinary.

A kind of shellfish abundant in the province.
Baked with melted cheese and it instantly became the star of the table!

Paella was bland.

Macapuno Pie was surprisingly good!

Halfway through our dinner, the music started playing and the dancers came out one by one. The whole program was about an hour long.

As with most performances I've been to here and abroad, the dancers would invite guests to dance with them towards the end of the program. I was volunteered (again!) and so for fun sake, I joined some other guests on stage and we danced to the tune of Hawaii Five-O.

Buti nalang hindi na nila ako makikita ulit!

Good thing I traveled with my friends and still had a wonderful first night in Dakak in spite of not having the best meal.

Where's our next destination guys?!
