Dakak Park & Beach Resort -- Day One

During the 90's, popular noon time TV show Eat Bulaga would play a commercial about a certain beach resort in Mindanao towards the end of the program. As a kid, my eyes would lit up every time I see how beautiful it is and wished I could go there someday.

Fast forward to today and I'm no longer the kid who would wait for summer and Christmas vacations with the family because I can now make things happen! *wink*

So friends, let me welcome you to my childhood dream destination -- Dakak Park & Beach Resort!

After spending the afternoon touring around Dapitan City, our friend/tour guide brought us to Dakak to check in. From the main road, we had to go through two check points to get to the reception area. At the second check point, we had to give our name for checking if we're on the guest list. I feel so secured knowing that they take security here quite seriously.

Dakak Park & Beach Resort opened its gates to the public in 1988 as the first 5-Star resort  in Mindanao with an AAA accreditation from the Department of Tourism. To date, the resort boasts 158 fully furnished rooms ready for occupancy scattered all over the huge estate.

The first thing I noticed upon arrival is this huge chandelier in the middle of the of the reception area.

And then the reception area with leather sofas in different colors.

My friends and I booked the Dakak Ta Bai Package through Fantasyland Travel & Tour Corporation (contact them at +639176277991 or +63922815912) at a discounted rate of Php5, 000 per person for twin and triple sharing. The package includes 3 days and 2 nights deluxe room accommodation, round trip airport transfers, free use of the resort facilities and complimentary all rides ticket pass at Fantasyland sa Dapitan.

During the check-in process, the manager told us that they can offer another package which costs Php1800 lower than what we paid for. Since we already paid Fantasyland Travel in full and they cannot refund the difference, we'll just have to use it for some other services like payment in the restaurants and booking a massage.

Welcome drinks is too sour!

We took a van going to the room along with our bags since it was quite far from the reception area. The place is really huge that's why they offer shuttle services if you want to go from one place to another.

The rooms are Filipino-inspired which is very noticeable starting with the capiz windows and rattan chairs at the veranda. We had an obstructed view of the beach and the kiddie pool but I'm not really complaining here since they will have to cut down a few trees to be able to offer a nicer view. So no thank you.

For a 24-year old resort, the rooms at Dakak are well maintained! There are no discolorations on the paints, the air-conditioning is working perfectly well and definitely no odd smell of old furniture.

Our room has 2 beds (a double and a single bed), a fully functional hot and cold shower and an old school television that needs an upgrade.

Unlike in other resorts where you don't have an option but to eat in the same restaurant all the time, Dakak Park & Beach Resort has 3 restaurants namely Il Patio Ristorante Italiano, Sushi Bar at Verandah and Port Orient if you prefer al fresco dining by the beach.

I also saw this Chinese-inspired hall which by the looks of it is used for occasions hosted at the resort like weddings, birthdays and company events.

The years of waiting and drooling is finally over because I am now indeed in my dream destination!

The 750-meter white sand beach at Dakak is breathtakingly beautiful especially in person!

After having a buffet dinner at Port Orient, we went back to the reception area and waited for the bus that took us to Gloria's Fantasyland as part of the package. It was a hectic first day touring around the historical landmarks in Dapitan so we decided to top it up some more with a night of adventure at Mindanao's very own theme park located at Sunset Boulevard.

More on that and the other activities we did at Dakak on the next posts. Watch out for it guys!

  1. If you are within the area on small business that could carry longer when compared to a 1 week or a couple, an apartment will make the keep more fulfilling until finally it's time for you to go back home. Whatsoever the reason behind remaining in the region to have an extended occasion, you need to find Right Type Of Vancouver Corporate Housing For Your Executives the most from a keep.
