Birthday Series: Bangus Restaurant

My birthday celebration won't be complete without a get together with my closest friends so even after more than 3 weeks, we still managed to celebrate my birthday with a dinner at Bangus Specialty Restaurant one Tuesday evening.

On the table

It was smoking hot when it arrived on our table but surprisingly, the kangkong wasn't soggy and was still very crunchy.

Sizzling Kangkong - Php160.00

Perfect for a cold and rainy night. The soup was sour and it had more bangus belly than the four of us can consume.

Sinigang na Prime Cut - Php345.00

I love bangus any way cooked but so far, this Pinalutong na Bangus with Ensaladang Mangga on the side is my favorite! Its crunchy on the outside but not dry and so tasty.

Pinalutong na Bangus at Ensaladang Mangga - Php295.00

For non-bangus lovers, we also ordered Pork Sisig which was swimming in oil.

Pork Sisig - Php220.00

It was a great night of gossiping and a lot of catching up.  Thanks guys for coming on very short notice!

Ash and Bhel: 11 Years in the Making

I've known the groom since I was in high school and even after graduation, we still kept in touch especially during birthdays, fiesta and other celebrations and later on with a pretty girlfriend in tow named Bhel.

Eleven years after being together, we got invited to the couple's wedding last July 18, the date of their anniversary.

The church wedding was held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Kawit, Cavite.

Fresh white roses adorn the church -- so pure and so beautiful.

It was such a lovely and solemn wedding attended by family and close friends.

Our barkada (minus 9 guys and girls now based abroad) with the couple Ash and Bhel.

The groom's high school classmates

Congrats guys!

Reception followed at Portico de Cecilia also in Cavite.

I love outdoor receptions!

After a surprising grand entrance by the entourage and the couple, the guests were asked to have their photo taken with the newly-weds by table before proceeding to the buffet area.

The program commenced while the guests were having dinner. I love that the games are new and exciting!

The party ended with the couple having their first dance as husband and wife. Such a pleasant and romantic sight!

One last shot before going home. The group getting bigger and bigger -- literally and figuratively! *wink*

The Cafe Mediterranean

Another girls night out at Resorts World Manila.

Girls night out = Good food + A little retail therapy (with emphasis on the word little)

It's been a long time since I've been to The Cafe Mediterranean and I'm glad my friends wanted to try it out for a change from our usual Filipino or Chinese food trips.

Chicken Gyro - Php90.00

Polo Panini - Php170.00

Moussaka is an eggplant baked dish with minced meat, tomatoes, yogurt and cheese. TCM's version is still delicious as I remembered it to be.

Moussaka - Php190.00

I had the Smoked Salmon Pasta which I find lacking in flavors. I only finished half of it which according to my friends is very surprising since I make it a point not to have any left overs.

Smoked Salmon Pasta - Php250.00

I hope a not-so-good experience here at The Cafe Mediterranean would not keep my friends from being a little daring in trying out new cuisine because life is too short to be able to try all the food in the world!

Birthday Series: King Bee

My birthday dinner was with the family at King Bee Restaurant in my hometown Cavite. It is now becoming a tradition to dine out during special occasions rather than cook at home, less stress and definitely more convenient as my parents would say.

I had lunch with my colleagues at Yang Chow Tea House earlier that day but since we have limited choices back home, I found myself to yet another Chinese restaurant that evening.

On the table

Service was fast and our orders started arriving in no time. The family enjoyed the sumptuous dinner but the kids had the best time playing with the lazy susan making it hard to take photos of the food. I had to do it real fast!

Hototay Soup (Large) - Php440.00

Cold Cuts (Medium) - Php495.00

Yang Chow Fried Rice (Medium) - Php315.00

Taosi Fish Fillet (Medium) - Php420.00

I was still quite full from lunch that I only managed to try some of our orders. But I liked the Beef Steak Chinese Style the most, it was sweet and tender.

Beef Steak Chinese Style (Medium) - Php450.00

Taiwan Pechay with Garlic (Medium) - Php285.00

King Bee Fried Chicken (Whole) - Php480.00

Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet (Medium) - Php450.00

Birthday Noodles (Medium) - Php345.00

With my 6-month old nephew PD, the newest addition and addiction of the family!

To cap off the night, we had Uno's Cheesecake for dessert which is by far the best cheesecake in the planet! Simple and no frills, mildly sweetened and just honest to goodness plain cheesecake that everyone loves, at least in our household that is.

Just make sure to go early in their Tomas Morato restaurant because this baby flies off the shelf as soon as they're baked in the morning.

The best CHEESEcake ever!

Birthday Series: Yang Chow Tea House

Is it just me or as we grow older, we prefer more intimate and simple birthday celebrations as compared to having one big party?

Anyway, I was in the office during my birthday and since it was a very busy day, I wasn't expecting we'd be able to go out for lunch. Well, I guess luck is on my side because as soon the clock hit the 12 noon mark, friends/colleagues started arriving to fetch me for a quick lunch out.

Its was a choice between Conrad's (Filipino food) and Yang Chow (Chinese food) and we chose the latter since its closer to the office. Service was a bit faster now with more wait staff covering the tables.

What we ordered

In our group, I think I am the more adventurous one when it comes to food and while most of them don't like this Hot & Sour soup, I had two bowls of this.

Hot & Sour Soup - Php180.00

All the other dishes were okay, nothing spectacular but filled our hungry stomachs nonetheless.

Yang Chow Fried Rice - Php200.00

Salt & Pepper Squid - Php190.00

3 Kinds Mushrooms - Php190.00

Salt & Pepper Spareribs - Php180.00

Chicken with Cashew Nuts - Php180.00

In spite of  not having the most amazing lunch, I still had a great time thanks to my awesome friends and colleagues. Thanks guys!

Birthday Series: Abe Restaurant

I celebrated my nth birthday last June with a series of lunch and dinner celebrations (naks!) with family, friends and love ones. First stop was Abe Restaurant (a member of the LJC Group of Restaurants) at the Mall of Asia which specializes in traditional Filipino cuisine.

What we ordered

The Baby Squid Rice consisting of bagoong rice topped with sauteed baby squid and salted egg.

Baby Squid Rice - Php325.00

I initially wanted to order the Sinuteng Baby Squid since I was craving for Adobong Pusit but upon seeing that they offer the Baby Squid Rice on the menu, I knew right there and then that this will be my new favorite meal! The bagoong taste was very subtle and I love that it had lots of baby squid. Oh, and let's not forget the salted egg that added more flavor and texture to it.

I'm trying to incorporate more veggies on my diet now and a Gising Gising dish is becoming a staple on my order. I just wish it was creamier though.

Gising Gising - Php240.00

The best lechon kawali I have ever had the privelege of tasting! I literally had to fight over this piece of heaven on the table.

Lechon Cubano - Php510.00

Story has it that Che Guevara once fought Fidel over its roasted crispy skin!

You can opt to dine al fresco while being serenaded by an acoustic band or stay indoors like we did.

Impeccable service, great selection of dishes and exceptional food worth every centavo, there's nothing more that I could ask for! My birthday wish for that night: I hope to visit more restaurants like Abe in the future.
