Eats in the USA: Hot N Juicy Crawfish (NV)

The 28th most populated city in the US, Las Vegas is probably America's most favorite vacation place. In fact, the city is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World with mega casino hotels and resorts that cater to the millions of tourists traveling to the Sin City for gambling, entertainment, shopping, dining, nightlife and conventions. The last leg of our US travel last April-May brought us to Las Vegas to cap off our one hell of an amazing trip.

As Vegas welcomes tourists from all over the world, culinary diversity is to be expected in order to satisfy varying demands. One of our random night outs brought CS and myself to Hot N Juicy Crawfish in their Planet Hollywood branch, home of the best seafood in town!

On the table

Lemon iced tea

Salt and pepper + lemon for added flavor

Aside from the bestselling crawfish, HNJ also offers other types of seafood such as dungeness crab, green mussels, blue crab, clams, shrimp, snow crab legs, black mussels, lobster and king crab legs. Everything is sold by the pound and can be cooked to your liking - choice of Louisiana, juicy cajun, garlic butter, lemon and pepper or hot and juicy. Spice level can also be customized from baby spice to extra spicy, depending on your tolerance to spicy food.

Juicy Cajun Crawfish (sold by the pound)

Tried crawfish for the first time and it was a challenge to eat! Good thing we were provided with a plastic bib and gloves because there's juice squirting off the crawfish to actually get the very little meat inside. But hey, it was one delicious, fun and tasty mess I can eat everyday!

Alaskan King Crab legs cooked in garlic and butter was great and equally juicy but so bitin! I could definitely eat more but I needed to save room for dessert so I passed on CS' offer to order more.

Garlic Butter King Crab Legs (sold by the pound)

Known for its amazing customer service and mouthwatering seafood, you should definitely try Hot N Juicy Crawfish (and crab legs and shrimp and lobsters) when in Las Vegas!

Hotel Review: Hotel Nikko San Francisco

Conveniently located at the edge of Union Square, Hotel Nikko was our hotel of choice in San Francisco. It was a 6-hour drive from Los Angeles so spoiling CS a bit in terms of booking a fancy room with a comfortable bed to sink into was the least that I can do for him. The hotel was closed from December 2016 to March 2017 for renovations that included an upgrade of the rooms, lobby, ballroom and pre-function space. Timing was perfect because our trip was a month after its scheduled reopening so we got to experience a redesigned and modern Hotel Nikko. The hotel is also recognized as a Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Hotel, one of only 5 hotels in San Francisco, so rates were pretty steep. Good thing there's Agoda for discounted prices and pay later option.

Choose among any of the 532 rooms and suites that you can book at Hotel Nikko where you can expect world-class hospitality and personalized service. Guests can also get to enjoy hotel amenities such as a glass-enclosed swimming pool and whirlpool spa, an expansive health club with dry sauna and steam rooms, complimentary internet service and car rental service. Also within the vicinity of the hotel lobby is a Starbucks store and a UPS business center.

We knew that we would be spending majority of our time exploring the city so booking a club room was not an option. Because at the end of the day, all we really needed was a relaxing room, an ultra soft bed with plush pillows and a soaking tub. Everything else like the city view, marble counter top with designer toiletries, LED television, mini-bar, coffee and tea maker, in-room safety box, ironing facility and wake up service were mere added bonus.

Pros: Central location in downtown San Francisco, lovely room with modern amenities, separate shower and tub, dry cleaning service, valet parking and a Starbucks store on site.

Cons: Hidden charges like $25 for the use of health club and pool for non-suite rooms and $30 for early check-in before 3PM and slow internet service.
