4Fingers Crispy Chicken

I initially thought it was another double-fried-pretending-to-be-the-best-Korean-styled-fried-chicken to hit the market. But boy, oh boy I was wrong!

4Fingers is a brainchild of four foodie friends who chanced upon the Korean-styled fried chicken in New York and thought that they landed a gold mine. The four brought the idea to Singapore which became a phenomenon! Soon enough, franchises were bought left and right not only in the Lion City but in neighboring Indonesia as well.

Last year, an angel finally decided to bring 4Fingers to our dear Manila.

First branch was opened at SM North Edsa and just recently, at the Mall of Asia.

The menu was simple and straight-forward -- drumstick or wings and soy garlic or spicy. I eagerly waited for our orders that arrived fast as it should be.

Drumstick Rice Box Meal in Soy Garlic Flavor - Php149.00

Chicken Rice Box Meal with Soy Garlic and Spicy Flavors - Php139.00

All rice box meals come with a cup of rice and regular drink of your choice.

Unlike its competitors, 4Fingers' chicken have extra crunchy skin which has no fat at all. The meat was tender and the flavors dug deep into the chicken down to the bones. It's so good that I had to put down the utensils and started eating with my hands!

I'm really loving the double fried process as it removes the fat underneath the skin which undoubtedly is the best and the unhealthiest part of the chicken.

I am definitely coming back for more!

Kenny Rogers Roasters

Kenny Rogers had been a favorite go-to place of mine since I was in high school since I prefer roasted over fried chicken. Fast forward to today and I still go to Kenny's whenever I'm craving for delicious and juicy roasted chicken and grilled ribs at affordable prices.

Here's what we ordered

Rib Plate A (Half Slab) - Php335.00

The rib was not fall-off-the-bones soft but still tender and tasty.

Steamed vegetables on the side was fresh and crunchy.

DB had the Chicken and Rib Plate which has two of my favorites in one plate!

Chicken and Rib Plate B (Half Slab & 1 Piece Chicken) - Php430.00

It was my first time to order and try Kenny's Chicken Macaroni Salad and I liked it! It was a bit sweet, had chunks of boiled chicken and the macaroni was cooked well. The coleslaw on the other hand tasted spoiled and sour which we immediately told the staff about. A few seconds after, the manager came by our table and apologized. She asked us to change our order and gave us a bowl of Mac & Cheese in return.

Okay, Kenny Rogers may not be as cheap as compared to other fast food chains out there but I think its money well spent so consider me a loyal patron for more years to come.

Siopao and More at Hen Lin

When I was a kid, I would ask my mom to buy me siopao from Pats (you'll know this if you're from Cavite) and eat the bread only and leave everything else to her. Fast forward to high school, my dad would bring me Kowloon House or Hen Lin's siopao for pasalubong. From then on, Hen Lin's siopao and siomai had been a favorite of mine.

Its been a while since I've been to Hen Lin, so seeing the sign again got me a little excited. Aside from the siopao bread we bought on the go, we also had lunch here before going on a road trip.

Braised Beef -- Vegetables were very crunchy and the beef literally melts in my mouth.

Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet

Beef Siomai -- Paired with Hen Lin's chili sauce, this is one's a classic favorite.

Sharksfin Siomai

Now that the car is loaded and our tummies full. Baguio, here we come!

The King and His Queen at Chowking

Its been a while since we've been to Chowking. I was expecting to try out new dishes but ended up ordering the same things I always eat.

Kangkong with Bagoong -- Their bagoong is one of my favorites (but my mom's is still the best!)

Pork Tofu -- Pork is too fatty, I should have ordered Tofu only

Chao Fan with Siomai -- Needs more flavor

DB on the other hand ordered Beef Broccoli.

I guess the more appropriate title would be "The Queen Who Eats Like A King".

I can almost hear DB agreeing and nodding his head constantly.

Available at all Chowking stores nationwide.

Marrybrown, KL

While most people drink coffee in the morning to keep them awake, I on the other hand, needs orange juice to perk up my day.

We arrived two hours before our flight, just enough time to check in and have breakfast before heading to the boarding gate. Proudly Malaysian owned and managed, Marrybrown is a fast food chain which has over 250 outlets all over the world with menu that ranges from burgers and fries to Nasi Lemak and other Halal food.

DB had the breakfast combo which has baked beans, toasted bread, egg and sausage while I had two-piece chicken.

I was too sleepy I barely ate.

Army Navy

My expectations were high when I finally entered the doors of Army Navy.  Finally because I've meaning to go here for the longest time, but their branches in Alabang and Tomas Morato were too far from me.  The chance came up when I saw the the sign at Harbour Square near CCP Complex.

You can opt to dine inside the air-conditioned area

or dine al fresco

for a better view

Service was fast!

On our table

Army Navy Classic Burger.  Quarter-pound beef patty.

A closer look

Steak Burritos.  Flour tortilla filled with Steak, Spanish rice, Beans, Onions,
Lettuce and Cilantro served with Salsa and a Slice of Lime.

Freedom Fries.  Seasoned thin cut, crispy and zesty fries.

Libertea

The oil from my Classic Burger is dripping the moment I took it out of the foil.  It tastes good but too much oil overwhelmed me.  The burrito is so so, there's not much steak in it and I've had better ones for the same price or even less. On the other hand, the Freedom Fries was very good, kinda reminded me of McDonald's Twister fries minus the twist and just thinly sliced.  The freshly brewed Iced Tea or Libertea was also a hit to me, just the right amount of sweetness.

After months of waiting to try out Army Navy, I can now say that the food is overrated.  But that's just me.

I cheated!

Who can resist the best burger in town for half the price? Definitely not me.

As much as I try to avoid eating in any fastfood chain nowadays, I had to make an exception for today.  Brother's Burger had a blowout only on September 30 where you can have the Big Brother's Burger 50% off!  Thankfully the Macapagal Branch is quite out of the way so I was sure that even if I came a bit late, there would be a Big Burger waiting for me unlike in other branches where it was out of stock as early as 3:00 in the afternoon.

And for dessert, I had my favorite ice cream from a Korean store nearby.  I don't know what its called, I just look for the fish in the freezer :) It's vanilla ice cream with a layer of red bean inside a waffle shell.   For Php50, it is definitely a treat!
