Old Favorites at Pancake House

Pancake House is probably the most blogged restaurant ever since I started my online journal. As what I've mentioned in the past, not only that DB and I are avid fans, but most of my friends as well. This is like our no-brainer-go-to-place that guarantees ultimate dining satisfaction on every visit.

It was late and we were bought hungry, DB parked in front of Pancake House, we chose a table and ordered right away. He doesn't even have to ask me if I like it here or not, he obviously knows I do.

On the table

Spicy Chicken Fillet with Brown Rice Pilaf - Php175.00

Not too hot which is perfect for DB who's tolerance for spicy food is as little as none. Ideal also for health-conscious people who prefer brown over white rice.

Bonoan Fish Steak - Php208.00

Aside from the Pan Chicken, another favorite order of mine here in Pancake House is the Bonoan Fish Steak. The marinated milkfish is delicious as expected while the pickled kangkong is still too sweet for my taste buds. I would make it a point to have an extra order of the salted egg next time to counter the sweetness.

Till our next visit!

The Wine Museum

Serving mostly Colonial-Spanish cuisine, The Wine Museum is now becoming a popular spot for couples, friends and families craving for delectable meals paired with wine from the restaurant's great selection (imported from different countries all over the world) in a very intimate setting.

The restaurant is also owned by the Joseph brothers who have been distributing wines across the Philippines for over 35 years now through their popular store Ralph's Wines and Spirits.

Aside from the restaurant on the ground floor, they have a wine museum (hence the name of the building) and a seminar area on the second floor which can also hold your birthday parties, company gatherings and just any occasion which requires good food and cozy ambiance. The third and fourth floor is where the rooms are located since The Wine Museum is also a boutique hotel.

What we ordered

Beef Stroganoff - Php400.00

I was surprised to see that the Beef Stroganoff came with pasta since I was expecting a rice meal but it was still a great pick off the menu nonetheless. The pasta was cooked al dente while the beef was soft but not soggy. I just added a dash of pepper and voila.. muy delicioso!

Seafood Paella - Php450.00

There are actually two types of Paella being offered here -- Seafood Paella and Paella Collonal which has seafood, chicken, pork, ham and sausage. I've heard The Wine's version is one of the best in Manila but I feel like it lacks flavor and color. Maybe I should try Paella Collonal next time for its variety.

I'm glad that we now have more choices near the airport area. So if you're flight got canceled or delayed for a few hours, you know where to go.

Dinner at Jatujak Thai Restaurant

There was a time two to three years back when I would constantly nag DB to have lunch or dinner in a Thai restaurant. Our favorite is a hole-in-the-wall place near Rockwell, Makati called Som's where we would bring friends to share our then secret home-cooked and delicious Thai food.

Then my palate took a 180-degree turn and I begged to have either Japanese or Korean cuisine almost everyday.

One night when we were looking for a place to eat, DB suggested we go have dinner at Jatujak for old time's sake. And I'm glad he did because I so miss this!

Pho Pia Sod (Fresh Vegetable Spring Rolls) - Php115.00

For starters, we ordered Fresh Spring Rolls which is quite filling and so healthy.

Kao Kluk Gapi (Bagoong Rice) - Php155.00

Instead of our usual plain rice, we veered off the norm and had Bagoong Rice. This is a complete meal in itself! We liked that the bagoong is not too strong and surprisingly complimented with our beef curry.

Another attempt to eat healthier, we ordered stir-fried veggies which is crunchy and so good I can eat one order by myself.

Pak Boong Fai Deng (Stir Fried Morning Glory with Tausi) - Php100.00

Kaeng Nua (Green Curry Beef) - Php255.00

Beef curry and rice is one perfect combination. Jatujak's version has lots of beef which is cooked to tenderness perfection while the curry flavor is not overpowering -- the reason why we always order green curry instead of yellow or red.

Waiter, two extra rice please!

Busy Days

I apologize for the lack of post these past few days and no, I wasn't out of town. To sum it up, I've been busy with work, went back to school to finally pursue a life-long dream of mine (I hope I can still find time to travel though), came across a road bump with my personal life

and met THE Christian Grey.

If you've read or have been reading the Fifty Shades trilogy, you'll understand that once you flip a page, there's no putting it down until you've finished reading the first book then the next one and then the last part. Just a reminder though, it's not meant for kids okay? You'll have to be 18 or even older and mature to even think of getting copy.

I heard that there are already plans to make this into a movie. Based on the poll made by the website Buzz Sugar, I am picking my bets on who could be playing as Christian in the sexy trilogy in this particular order.

Ian Somerhalder. With that sideways smile, gorgeous body and smoldering look, he would be perfect to play Christian's role which I believe he openly campaigns for. And yes, I am biased because Damon is the best thing that ever happened to the television.

Matt Bomer. There's something about this guy that reminded me of CG the first time I saw him. Seeing more and more photos of him, I now understand why. Those deep-set eyes, chiseled face and mysterious look is so very Mr. Grey!

Wentworth Miller. I have always loved Michael Scofield ever since Prison Break to the point of obsession so seeing him portray my current addiction is like hitting two birds with one stone.

Alexander Skarsgard. His intensity and ambiguity shown in the True Blood series can help him land the role at the Fifty Shades trilogy.

Chris Hemsworth. Dark Thor sounds interesting, don't you think?

All photos are grabbed from Google.

Okay, moving on now..

I would like to share a new favorite pasalubong of mine from Hongkong aside from Maxim's Roast Duck -- Dried Squid!

Not like the one's that you can buy here, this is a tastier, sweeter and not so dry version of everyone's favorite snack, at least in our house that is. But if you do got the chance to take a bite of this, I'm sure it will be yours too!
