Green Mango Restaurant, Hanoi VN

The ever-friendly staff of Calypso Grand Hotel recommended for us to try one of the most popular restaurants in Hanoi that serves superb Vietnamese and Western cuisine -- Green Mango. Since traveling in Vietnam is easy on the pocket, we taught of splurging a bit (in Vietnam standards) and treat ourselves to a nice restaurant after hours of walking around the Old Quarter.

DB and I arrived in time for dinner so most of the tables were already occupied. We were lucky to be seated right away and offered refreshments by the staff while we check out the menu.

On the table

Complimentary Breads

Lemon Water

Fresh Spring Rolls

Mushroom Risotto

Fillet Mignon

Even if I was really hungry, I managed to take my time and savored every bite to prolong the pleasure and burst of flavors in my mouth! DB's Fillet Mignon cooked medium-rare was tender and juicy while my Mushroom Risotto was equally delicious and had the perfect consistency. It was definitely money well-spent.

I highly recommend Green Mango as one of the must-try's if you're planning to visit Hanoi soon.

Nolboo Korean Restaurant

DB and I were running out of options until we saw a lit up signage of Nolboo Korean Restaurant just when we agreed to go to a nearby coffee shop for dinner. One of the things he complains about me living in the province is the limited dining option whenever he comes to visit me at home.

Our favorite Japanese restaurant was closed (hopefully not for good) so it's either Chinese food or some waffles at the coffee shop. Or in this case, unlimited Banchan and some grilled meat which sealed the deal!

On the table

Spicy String Beans and Beef

Spicy Eggplant

Garlic Taiwan Pechay

Spicy Radish

Beansprouts

Kimchi

Mushrooms

Spicy Zucchini

Vegetable Omelette

DB wanted to eat seafood that night so he ordered this Fried Fish which was tasty and not too bony. I love that the outside was crispy but the meat was soft and not dry.

We ordered two sets of Marinated Short Ribs (Php300 each) since we both know that one is never enough for both of us. The waitress chose to grill on the table in front of us so we were spared with direct blow of smoke that no more than 2 sprays of perfume can't mask.

Excellent service, great location with ample parking space and affordable menu -- glad to have another option near our place!

Breakfast at Calypso Grand Hotel, Hanoi VN

I'm a morning person whereas DB loves to sleep in late. So whenever we travel, I always have a hard time waking him up for breakfast that I end up sleeping in as well. But our recent trip to Hanoi changed the way he looks to waking up early and actually getting out of bed -- I say blame it (aka thankful) to the delicious food served in Calypso's breakfast spread.

Daily buffet breakfast was part of the package we got and I'm glad that they change the hot meals menu everyday to go with freshly-baked breads, fruits in season and cereals.

Guests can also choose any of the offerings off their breakfast menu, one order per guest.

All Day Breakfast

Bacon, Sausage, Ham, Potato Wedge and Baked Tomato

Chicken Club Sandwich

Stir Fried Noodles with Beef and Vegetables

Any meal (even breakfast) will not be complete without Vietnamese Spring Rolls on the table. I can't remember exactly how many rolls DB and I were able to consume in one sitting but it was A LOT.

It only took one bite of this chocolate-filled bread roll and I was addicted! The manager even had to send someone to buy this when we came late looking for this -- talk about going the extra mile!

Fresh Avocado Juice to end the perfect meal.

You may be wondering now, was the food worth waking up early and leaving our big and comfortable bed at least for an hour or two? Absolutely!
