The itinerary sent to us prior to departure said that the group will be staying at Oxford Hotel for the 5-day class trip. I thought I had to endure sleeping in a crappy hotel and paying a premium price for it until we were dropped off in front of Parc Sovereign Hotel and I've never felt so relieved! There are actually two branches of Parc Sovereign in Singapore -- one in Albert Street (the one we stayed in) and the other in Tyrwhitt so be wary when booking your rooms to avoid the hassle and confusion of getting the wrong hotel.
Accommodation in Singapore is expensive. Those hotels along Orchard Road usually charge a minimum of Php10,000 per room per night for a 3-star accommodation. Good thing our travel agent was able to book a mid-tier class hotel in a quiet yet centrally located neighbourhood. Since we get to travel on-board a tourist bus (and my friend's sleek Mercedes-Benz) most of the time, I never really got the chance to take the MRT or any mode of public transportation during our stay. But exploring the city by train won't really be a problem if you wish to book in Parc Sovereign because both Little India and Bugis stations are just walking distance from the hotel.
My friend and I were given a deluxe room with twin beds on the 8th floor. Our minimally appointed cozy room was very clean, well-maintained and ergonomically decorated. In-room facilities include a mini-fridge with complimentary beverage, an LCD cable TV, tea/coffee maker, a hair dryer and wifi access with password that annoyingly changes everyday. Just a reminder though, make sure you bring an adaptor for your device chargers because Singapore uses 3-pin sockets.
Parc Sovereign has an outdoor swimming pool on the 4th floor along with a mini playground and a fitness centre. With the hot and humid weather in Singapore, taking a dip into this inviting pool after a long tiring day is heavenly!
