You Jie Xiao Chao Restaurant

The last time I was here was like two or three years ago, the night of my Vietnam trip when I nearly missed my flight getting from Makati to the airport on a rainy Friday night. I can still vividly remember how spicy the beef hotpot was and how we all sweat like crazy in an air-conditioned room.

More popularly known as the Hainan Restaurant in Rockwell

The place was packed! We were lucky to secure a table right away.

Unlimited rice within my arm's reach.

Here's what we ordered

Adobo Pig Ears -- 1/3 pig ears 2/3 cucumber and peanuts

Beef with (Mildly Spicy) Chili -- The beef was too hard to chew!

Sauteed Taiwan Pechay -- Fresh Pechay with butter. Lots of butter.

Lamb with Onions -- Lamb was tender but it was too oily.

See what I mean?

It surely did not meet my expectations of having the best authentic Hunan dinner that night. The prices increased but the servings were less than what I remember (three dishes then were good enough for five hungry stomachs).

Too bad since this was a very promising place then. Sigh. I really hope the food and service would improve soon.
